Table toppers Tottenham take on Chelsea in a London derby as both teams try to underline their title credentials this season. The clash sees Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard meeting for the second time this season after Spurs knocked out Chelsea in the EFL Cup through penalties. Tottenham have a challenging fixture list after the Chelsea game as they play against Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester City and Mourinho believes Spurs will have the momentum by winning at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the game Mourinho said he is wary of the amazing talent Chelsea possess. The Spurs manager added “Going to Stamford Bridge top of the league or going there with Liverpool top of the league doesn’t change anything for us. As I was saying since the beginning of the season we are only or always contenders to win the next match. Nothing more than that. We are going to be there at Chelsea, with three possible results. We are in football for a long time, we know that anything can happen, but we go there, and our objective is to win the game.“
Chelsea are unbeaten in their last ten matches across all competitions and have scored the most number of goals in the Premier League. Mourinho feels Chelsea have an amazing squad with brilliant individuals who could cause problems for Spurs. The Spurs manager added “Chelsea has an amazing squad. To play Mendy or the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the Premier League? To play Reece James or Cesar Azpilicueta? To play Ben Chilwell, Marcos Alonso or Emerson? I am not even worried about who is going to play because they only have very good players.”
Spurs were without Hugo Lloris, Bergwijn and Giovani Lo Celso as they eased past Ludogorets in their Europa League game, and Mourinho hopes they are available for the Chelsea game.
