Edinson Cavani could miss Manchester derby

The first Manchester derby of the season sees Manchester United host their noisy neighbours with both teams separated by just one point. Having being knocked out of Champions League, a lot rides on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his men to maintain the good run in Premier League. On the other hand Manchester City will try to continue their resurgence and reduce the gap with table toppers Tottenham and Liverpool.

Anthony Martial

Solskjaer confirmed Martial will be involved after going off injured in their comeback win against West Ham. However, the game might come too soon for Edinson Cavani as the Uruguayan just returned to training. The Manchester United manager added “Anthony will definitely be involved and Edinson has been on the grass today. But I’m not sure if he’ll make it. Apart from that, we’ve had a couple of days of recovery and we should be ready.

Speaking on playing against Manchester City Solskjaer said “Starting quickly is one thing and we want to start good. We have done well in last few games against City but there are loads of things we can do better. We got pegged back in the beginning in midweek and they scored from crosses, which was disappointing. We really wanted to go through but we have to move on. It was a tight group decided by fine margins. Focus has been on this game and Manchester derby. That is the best game you can ask for.”

Solakjaer admitted his players are disappointed after being knocked out of Champions League and are looking to bounce back to winning ways. The United manager added “Any player should be disappointed and frustrated when you lose. Before the next game, you have to analyse what has gone wrong but it is important not to press the panic button every time because you know in football you cannot win every single game. But there are games that you lose that hurt more than others some losses has more consequences than others. The reality is we are out of the Champions League for the rest of the season. We have to move on and get back into the Champions League.
