Although many considered Tottenham as title contenders, Mourinho claimed Spurs were a pony in horse race for the title. The Tottenham managers claim was justified after Spurs suffered defeats against defending champions Liverpool and Leicester City to drop to sixth position in the table.
Despite the consecutive defeats Jose Mourinho feels his team should be proud of the position they are in ahead of the busy Christmas fixtures. The Tottenham manager added “It is very hard in this league to have consistent runs because every game is very difficult,” he said. We were in a period where we had to play against the considered top-six teams where we got them in a row and some people can say now, we are going to get an easier run of matches.”
“What is easier? Go to Wolves and play Fulham and Leeds? It’s not easier, this is a league where we are and we should be very happy with that and not sad with that. We should be happy because it is a fantastic league.”
Mourinho admitted Spurs have a good opportunity of winning a silverware after defeating Stoke City in the Carabao Cup Quarter-final. “To win this trophy we need to win two matches. But they are two very difficult matches. To win other trophies you need to win much more matches. The FA Cup didn’t start for us. The Europa League we are in the last 32. We are really far from getting there.”
“In the Premier League I told you already what we are. But they are very difficult two matches. If you win the first one you have to win the second. The teams that are going to be there are very difficult teams.”
“Brentford for me the way they play they are not Championship, they are Premier League. But we are in the semi finals and we will be there to fight.“
