De Gea asks for focus after Wolves win

Manchester United ended 2020 in second position, two points behind leaders Liverpool after defeating Wolves at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford scored the only goal in the 3rd minute of stoppage time to move United within touching distance of Liverpool, and establish themselves as a genuine title contenders.

Wolves had more shots on target than United, but De Gea was at his best to produce a string of saves to deny the visitors. Speaking to MUTV, the United number 1 asked his teammates to remain focussed as the title challengers talk intensify. The goalkeeper added “We need to be calm. There are still a lot of games to play, big games, and we have the cups as well so there are many, many games.”

We have to stay focused and not look forward too much but just look to the next game. So, Aston Villa is the most important thing now.”

Speaking on the victory against Wolves, De Gea said it was a hard earned win against a very tough opposition. The Spaniard added “It was a massive win. To score at the end of the game, a tight game against a good team, this is the way to be at the top of the league.”

They are a very good team, they defend well, they counter-attack and they have players up front with pace. It was tight. They had some chances but so did we. And scoring in the last minutes is always good. So we get the three points and that is massive for us.”
