Arsenal youngsters help thrash Spurs

Arsenal youngsters paved the way for a dominant North London derby win as the Gunners handed a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Having lost the first three games of the season, Arsenal’s third successive win has helped them move above Spurs, who have now conceded three goals in each of their last three games.

Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring as early in the 12th minute after stroking his effort past Lloris off Saka’s low cross. Arsenal were in the ascendancy as they doubled their lead in the 27th minute through a terrific counter-attack as Aubameyang fired home off Smith Rowe’s cut-back.

Spurs weren’t given any respite as Saka scored Arsenal’s third goal in the 34th minute by bundling home his effort past Lloris after Harry Kane lost the ball at the other end of the pitch.

Although Spurs pulled one back through Heung-min Son in the 79th minute and hit the bar through Lucas Moura in the stoppage time, Arsenal were in complete control of the game to earn a dominant win and pile more pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win Arsenal striker Aubameyang thanked fans for the support, and urged his teammates to continue the good run. He added “It means the world to us. The fans give us everything. They push us. It’s an amazing feeling, just unbelievable. It’s quite easy when they [the young players] listen and are ready to learn.”

The most important thing is they improve as they play. They are doing amazing. We are doing a good run. We want to go forward and win games. We are doing well right now.”

Thanking Arsenal fans for their support the midfielder said “The fans have done so much for us today and we want to thank them as much as we can. I feel like we’ve worked so hard. We had a tough start to the season. I feel like its going really well at the moment but we need to keep our heads own.”

It’s surreal to be honest. It’s the best day of my life. To have my family here too, I’m so happy.”

Mikel Arteta

The Arsenal manager praised his team for their performance and credited the victory to fans. The Spaniard said “This win is for the fans. They were there when we needed their support. We started really strongly and were determined. In the second half we had to do what we had to do.”

We just need to keep everyone healthy because we are going to need everyone. It was the exact mix we needed with the senior players and then the youth. Its a special day. Today is one example of what we want to do. But we have to be consistent.”

I think in life you have to show gratitude. These people have stood by this club and these players. This win is for them. When you are trying rebuild and trying to do the right things you have to stay by your values. Now we are creating the connection with our supporters.”

We had great determination, great energy and great quality. I really enjoyed it. I see the belief the players have in what we do [in training]. They have the quality to put it into practice.”

[It is important] they make each other better. It’s about raising the level in the team and training. If they all have that mentality then what happened today happens.”
