Tottenham end managerial talks with Fonseca

Tottenham Hotspur’s managerial hunt took another twist as they ended their talks with Paulo Fonseca earlier today. The former AS Roma manager looked certain to take over the reigns at Tottenham, only for the contract talks to fall through because of issues related to taxes.

Sources close to Fonseca revealed that the Italian law provided Fonseca with tax breaks, which are not applicable in the United Kingdom. The failure to appoint Fonseca leaves Tottenham with very limited options after their other targets – Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann and Erik ten Hag were not available.

Reports have now emerged stating Tottenham have opened talks with Gennaro Gattuso, who left his managerial post at Fiorentina over disagreements on transfer policy. The former AC Milan midfielder made a swift exit from Fiorentina after just 22 days in charge.

With just two months for the start of Premier League season, and facing Manchester City in their opening game, Tottenham have a very limited time to appoint a manager and bring in players during the summer. It has been almost two months since Jose Mourinho was sacked after 17 months in charge, but Spurs haven’t been able to make any concrete progress in their efforts to appoint a new manager.

Fans are divided on the possibility of appointing Gattuso, who is mostly know for his combative approach as player and manager. With no other options available to explore, Spurs might have to gamble on the Italian for the next season. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Spurs being linked to another manager in the coming days.
